Late February. My husband and I are moving across the country. Other than what fit in our car, all of our belongings are in storage. In the early morning, I took our dog for a walk outside the hotel, thinking about all the unknowns – where we will live, what the people will be like. The previous evening, our dog had barked and scared away a group of coyotes in the dark. There were no coyotes or even people out in the morning, but in the large grassy field by the movie theater I saw a spot of turquoise – my favorite color. It turned out to be a quilted heart. I now have it hanging on the refrigerator of our short-term rental as a reminder: there’s no need to worry about the all unknowns and what-ifs. My friends might be far away, but there are good people everywhere.
