On the 18th of September we had some very good news, we were on our way home from Melbourne Today after having some tests done yesterday for our 3rd son. He had very bad jaundice when he was 3 days old, we were told that his bilirubin blood results were really high and not normal. We had been sent to Bendigo special care nursery then to The Royal Children’s hospital from Deniliquin,NSW needing a lot of blood tests, ultrasounds and some different medications. After the first week of him being in this world we were explained by the gastroenterology doctor that he may have a rare liver condition called biliary Artesia, a procedure was the treatment to help the liver condition. Our little newborn boy was admitted to have a liver biopsy at 3 weeks old to try figure out the problem as the gastro Team still weren’t completely sure what it was he had wrong with his liver. During the whole 10 weeks of baby’s life we have been driving back and forth multiple times being told he could have 4 different conditions. Yesterday he had his 3rd liver ultrasound, 4th liver function blood test and a HIDA (hepatobiliary iminodiacetic acid) scan. The HIDA was the test to tell us all what the condition would be and what would be next whether it was going to be a liver condition we would have to just monitor him or biliary atresia where he’d need his 2nd liver biopsy and kasai procedure. Just as we were about to leave Melbourne I received a phone call from the gastro doctor, he explained that the scan and tests showed that baby was slowly getting being himself no longer needing anymore treatment or help but to be checked up on every now and than. The progress of his liver getting better has been happening the past month slowly. On our way home to Deniliquin we stopped in Tatura at a rest stop, we were walking around the path having a look around the gardens and found a quilted heart.
