On 2/18/23, I ventured into the woods, towards the trails at the BMX Supercross Track in Rock Hill, SC to cheer on my nephew. The spot on the trail was usually full of people waiting to cheer on their loved ones. But on this day, I found myself oddly alone and overcome with sadness. And as the first tear fell, I looked up and there was the heart, hanging on a small branch, right in front of me. In an instant my sadness turned to a weirdly calm peace, because I knew my brother WAS there with me.
You see, it was the day after we celebrated my parent’s 57th wedding anniversary, and it was the last race of the 2022 winter short track season for my nephew. I was feeling heartbroken because my brother/nephew’s dad, whose life was cut short by a tragic accident in June of 2023, was not able to be there and was missing everything in our lives. But when I saw and touched the hanging heart… I was reminded that he is always with us and will forever be watching over and protecting his son. Thank you to whoever placed this heart because it came when I most needed it.
