This story is long overdue and if you don’t believe in serendipity, and the larger part this quilted heart plays in my tale, this personal history isn’t for you. I found my quilted heart almost a year ago on August 24, 2023 but to know more, we have to go back even further. My husband (D) and I met on January 1, 2010 while we were seniors in high school and we decided to get married in 2020 for our 10 year anniversary. D comes from a large family and always wanted kids and for most of our relationship I wasn’t sure (I always said I would be fine having or not having kids). In July 2023 we decided we should try to conceive for a year. Life keeps happening, I go to the gym a few times a week, go to work during the week, and see friends on the weekends. All of a sudden, I had some odd period symptoms right before my period and decided to take a pregnancy test while at work on since there was a pharmacy in the building. It was August 24, 2023, and you guessed it, I was pregnant. I honestly did not know how to feel, my whole life just changed, and I recommend never taking a pregnancy test at work mid day because I wasn’t ready to tell my coworkers the news. None of that is to say I wasn’t excited, but the news of your first child is a world rocker and takes some time to process. As I was processing this, I decided to take a walk around the building and found a quilted heart. The second I read about the project I was in tears and knew that this was a sign that I had been utterly blessed. Fast forward to today I have a beautiful 3 month old boy and he is the light of D’s and my life. His heart hangs on his dresser as a reminder of that moment and I cannot wait to tell him this story when he is older. Thank you to whoever left this heart, it couldn’t have came at a better time.
