My husband and I are from north Texas. We recently traveled to the Texas coast for the Whooping Crane Festival held in late February 2024. We participated in a guided nature hike with approximately 20 participants (most avid bird watchers) at a conservation area near the gulf. We were near the rear of this group as my husband is a bird photographer and he was taking pictures. The guest in front of us pointed out what he thought was trash that had been trapped on a low branch of shrub. I saw how neatly it was packaged and surmised it was purposefully left there. As a former geocacher and bookcrosser, and someone who has also found giveaways such as crotched bookmarks in free little libraries, I recognized it as a traveling gift. I saw it had a website “I found a quilted heart” on which to register the find. When were came back from the coast to North Texas, I logged it to let you all know this cute little quilted bird was found by bird lovers!
