I had just come out of the Wal-Mart in Mitchell on Saturday evening, February 25, and I was parked next to a tree in the parking lot. And it wasn’t until I was loading up my vehicle when I noticed something curious out of the corner of my eye. “What is this random ornament hanging on this tree?” I thought. And then I looked closer at it. “I NEED A HOME!” the tag said.
My first thought was, “Sure. I can take pity on a quilted heart.” So I undid the twist tie that held the quilted heart to the tree and I loaded it up with the rest of my belongings. My second thought was, “Sometime this weekend I will look into this ‘I Found A Quilted Heart’ website and see what I can find out about this.” So that’s how I found this website, and I learned that this was mostly a bunch of anonymous people leaving these cute little crafts around hoping to cheer up somebody that they will never meet.
And it was sometime on Sunday morning when I had my third thought. My third thought went something like, “We just had another major snowstorm in southeast South Dakota this past week. Dumped 16″ of snow on us. Wind chills and temperatures below zero. How long has this poor thing been sitting out in the elements?” A lengthy way of saying, I’m glad I brought this quilted heart inside. I imagine it’ll go somewhere with the rest of the decorations in my house eventually.
