Our heart was found on March 5, 2025. My husband and I couldn’t have found it at a better time or place. We’re unfortunately homeless and have been living in our truck until it broke down. Sadly, the last four months have been a struggle to get food in our tummies and not feel like failures because we can’t find employment.
We started the night walking from Apache Junction, AZ, heading to Downtown Mesa, with a very long walk ahead of us. My husband had a class to attend, and I needed to get us a food box, not far from his class. We walked all night, got tired and cold, and had to find somewhere to stay warm and rest our eyes, if only for a moment. We knew if we stopped too long, he’d miss his class, and we’d miss our chance at a food box.
It was around 7 am when we arrived at the Walmart in Mesa, located on Power and Southern Ave. We had $3.36 and got something to drink and eat with what little money we had. As we were leaving Walmart, walking in the parking lot, we saw something in a tree in row 2. At first, I thought it was a piece of paper stuck from all the wind we’ve been having, but as we got closer, I saw it was a heart. I was beyond excited to find something with puppies on it! My hubby said, “Look, it was meant for you.” It made our long journey FULL OF LOVE!
