This morning at IHOP, on New Year’s Day 2025, I found myself in a cozy little moment that felt like a gentle reminder of kindness. I had just come from Mass and was waiting for my to-go order when I struck up a conversation with a sweet couple who were waiting for their table. We exchanged kind words, sharing a little joy and warmth as we waited—the kind of connection that makes the start of a year feel a bit brighter.
As their name was called and they stood up, the lady sitting next to me noticed something on the bench where they’d been seated. She whispered, “Shhh,” with a playful grin, and we both leaned in closer. There, in the middle of the bench, was a small heart carefully left behind, as if it had been placed there just for us to find. It was a simple gesture, but one that felt meaningful, like a reminder that love, kindness, and serendipity can pop up in the most unexpected places.
May God bless her and her family, and may they continue to spread the warmth and love that made this day feel so special.
