I Found a Quilted Heart.com
On August 30, 2022, the day after our 52nd anniversary my wife, Rita, and I drove back to our hometown of Indian Head, Saskatchewan, Canada. After an early morning rise, we drove to the nearby Tim Horton’s for our morning coffee and breakfast sandwiches. My family moved away from Indian Head in 1963, a year after I met my wife to be in grade 8. We now live in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, 260 kms. away and we still return to our home town a few times each year to visit with old friends and to experience the beauty of this beautiful small prairie town.
Being such a lovely morning, we decided to enjoy our meal outside at the nearby Veterans’ Park across from where the old Canadian Pacific Railway station used to be. We found a picnic table, the sun was high and bright, there were no mosquitoes, and a light morning dew covered the grass. It was still early in the morning so there was no traffic to interrupt the stillness and solitude at the park.
When we were finished our meal and got up from the picnic table to leave, I noticed something shiny on the ground nearby and being curious, walked over to it to see what was shining in the morning sunlight. It was a clean Ziploc bag covered in dew. I picked it up and shook off the dew to see inside the bag a beautiful hand made quilted heart.
I was surprised to find this because my wife has a big fan for heart shapes – anything heart shaped she picks up and adds to her collection. I picked it up and gave it to her saying, “Here is my heart for you today!” She was thrilled and tickled pink.). Attached to the colourful cloth heart was a neatly typed tag with the words – “I NEED A HOME I found a quilted heart. www.IFAQH #IFAQH”
Before driving away, she googled www.IFAQH to find out the meaning behind this little treasure we had just found. We were surprised to find that the IFAQH consisted of a community of volunteers who place small, quilted hearts around the globe to brighten the day of a stranger, and if a stranger happened to find one, it was meant to be theirs! How amazing was this!
Reading further we found this project was started January 29, 2014, by three sisters who were hiking in the Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada with their husbands when they happened to come across a tiny, quilted heart with a tag attached with the words I NEED A HOME.
To whomever left this lovely quilted heart for us to find, THANK YOU. Finding this little treasure just made our day and it now has a good home.
