The Moody County Courthouse is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the laying of the cornerstone. The Fourth of July 2014 was a day of celebration. It included kids old-fashioned games (raw egg toss, 3-legged races, bobbing for apples) as well as inflatable toys, a dunk tank, and many vendor booths selling raffle chances, baked good, eggrolls, Indian tacos, ice cream, lefse, baked goods, and pies. There were horse-drawn wagon rides, as well as city historic tours. The program included several of the speeches that were given at the original dedication 100 years ago (in both the Dakota and English languages), as well as the City Band performance, a choir, several local dignitaries, and of course the opening of the time capsule!
Between eating an Indian taco and waiting for the program to begin my husband, Jim, wandered around the grounds and found a quilted heart hanging in a tree! How appropriate! I am a quilter! I just finished a baby quilt for my first great-grandson to born in August 2014!
