I found a quilted heart on Dec. 21 while out for a walk with a neighborhood friend. As she’s new to the area, I wanted to show her a specific street that I find peaceful with incredible views. It was on that street that I found the heart hanging from a small tree limb that hung outside of someone’s fence. I was reluctant to take it since I didn’t know if it was an oddly placed decoration but my friend encouraged me to claim it. I half-joked that we could share custody of it. The timing was amazing as I had told her a few minutes ago that as much as I love the holiday season, I always get depressed around this time, especially with the change in weather. Finding the heart felt like a serendipitous moment. It felt like the universe’s way of reminding me that I’m not alone – whether it’s family, friends, or kind strangers who leave beautiful, quilted mementos for a passerby.
