My son and I made our way to the bleachers behind right field at the Elkton Little League Field. We were the only two people on that set of bleachers for that moment. We were there to watch my husband who coaches a farm league baseball team of energetic little boys, including our two nephews. A gentleman whose grandson was on the opposing team came to sit with us. We’ve run into each other at a few games this season and enjoy chatting. He’s just the type of person you’d want to sit with at a game – friendly, cheerful, and someone who wants the kids to have fun!
After a few minutes, a dangling heart hanging on the outfield fence caught my eye. My son, almost three, is a busy little guy, so I wasn’t able to take a closer look just yet. My mom, my son’s “Grammy,” joined us at the baseball game and I mentioned it to her. My curiosity grew, so after a while I walked up to the heart to take a peek. I thought maybe it was something that got stuck in passing, but when I turned it around, I saw the IFAQH message. I left it there and sat back down, getting my phone out to check out the IFAQH website. After understanding what was happening, I showed my mom the website and took the heart off the fence. Let me share why I believe I was meant to find this heart.
Our son is too young to play t-ball, much less farm league baseball. My husband coaches our nephews, who are his late brother’s sons. His late brother, Jeremy, loved baseball and had coached his boys since they were old enough to play. He passed away at the end of 2021, and my husband has been coaching Jeremy’s sons in his memory. I would not have been at this ball game had my husband not been coaching for Jeremy, for his boys. And several feet down the fence from where I found this heart, was Jeremy’s memorial sign that hangs on the inside of Elkton’s Little League Field.
We miss you, Jeremy. You are loved!
