On Monday morning, June 26th, I received a text from a friend proposing a morning walk. Truthfully, I was feeling lazy and almost declined. Instead, I leashed up my dog, Dewey, and we met a Kocher Park, a cool spot full of native plants along Fishing Creek in central Pennsylvania. We strolled along the paths, engaging in conversation about summer plans and our grown children.
During our second lap, a purple heart suspended from a branch caught my attention. I wondered how I could have missed it on the first go around. Surprised, we carefully retrieved it. We thought we would find more, thinking it an art display. We did not. It reminded me to be kind, to be present, and to be receptive to the possibilities life offers.
