I was working trail maintenance on the Appalachian Trail in Southwest Virginia. We had made it to the end of our section at the Chestnut Ridge Pond which has a spring box and is a very important water source. The quilted heart was hanging from a tree branch along the pond and caught my eye. At first I thought it was litter but when I picked it up, I immediately knew I was taking it home for my girlfriend. She thinks it’s really neat.
